First and foremost, we want to be clear that we warmly welcome candidates from all backgrounds. We are looking for an individual to bring new skills and experiences to culturally add to this organisation, rather than fit an existing cultural mould.
Charity People is proud and privileged to be collaborating with SHINE Trust to find a new Trustee to join their Board with a specialism in finance and investment. SHINE was first established in 1999 by a group of committed philanthropists who wanted to help improve education for the most disadvantaged children. Since then, SHINE has invested more than £29 million in projects benefiting 1.3 million disadvantaged children from 20,000 schools. They are working towards ambitious targets for 2025, which includes investing £25 million across the North of England.
SHINE has a unique income model and thanks to the continued generosity of its trustees and investment portfolio, their central operating costs are fully funded. As finance-specialist trustee, you'll support the Board in overseeing the charity's investments; ensuring sufficient liquidity in the portfolio and helping ensure that returns can be maximised in the best interests of the charity.
You'll need extensive experience of accountancy and strategic financial management, alongside a passion and commitment to equality: every child deserves the best start in life, regardless of background or where they live. Ideally, you'll be based in the North of England to support the charity's position as the only locally-based, specialist funder of education to cover the full geography of the Northern Powerhouse.
The Board's skills, talents and experiences are vast and varied. However, they are keen to strengthen diversity to better reflect the communities and young people they serve. We would be especially keen to hear from individuals from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds.
This is a truly unique charity, with people who care deeply about their mission: every child should have a fair chance to achieve their potential. If you believe you have the professional skills and qualities we're looking for, then we would love to hear from you.
A draft CV or profile would be a useful first step; however, please feel free to get in touch for a copy of the recruitment pack and an initial conversation if you prefer. Our Regional Director, Amelia Lee, is leading on this opportunity and you can reach her on 07809738477.
Deadline: 9am on 1st December
Interviews: Thursday 10th and Tuesday 15th December
Charity People actively promotes equality, diversity and inclusion. We do this because we know greater diversity will lead to even greater results for the charities we work with.
