Charity People are delighted to be working in partnership with The Royal College of Emergency Medicine to recruit a Press and Communications Officer.

The Royal College of Emergency Medicine works to ensure high quality care for patients by setting and monitoring standards of care in emergency departments, as well as providing expert guidance and advice on policy to relevant bodies on matters relating to Emergency Medicine.

The College aims to advance education and research in Emergency Medicine. It is responsible for setting standards of training and administering examinations in Emergency Medicine for the award of Fellowship and Membership of the College, as well as recommending trainees for CCT in Emergency Medicine.

They are currently looking to recruit a Press and Communications Officer to develop the media profile of The College; by working collaboratively in conjunction with the Communications Manager on the delivery of external campaigns across various media mediums. You will be proactive in the operations of the Communications team including providing robust support with social media content and website management.

Your role will involve taking a lead on press activity. Researching, drafting and issuing press releases or quotes, assembling media packages, selling-in stories, owning and building relationships with journalists and acting as first port of call for media enquiries. You will work to proactively identify communications and media opportunities, including use of data analysis to form news stories. Furthermore, you will assist with the editorial creation and ongoing monitoring and maintenance of social media accounts, along with updating the website using a content management system and providing editorial assistance in the development of website content where required.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in communications and media relations. You should have excellent skills in working with senior stakeholders, an ability to build strong, existing relationships with media contacts, digital skills and an interest in social media. We're also looking for someone who has strong organisational and planning skills, and demonstrable experience of multi-tasking and prioritising work to fit with tight deadlines Furthermore, you should have great attention to detail, good proof-reading skills and ability to adapt writing styles for different channels
