    Jobseekers » Voluntary Work

Volunteering is probably the most effective way to learn about working in the not for profit sector. Of course, it depends on whether you have the time and the means to be able to work for free. However if you can do it, the rewards are enormous. Volunteering will allow you to learn first hand about the different roles that exist, how they relate and what the responsibilities are on a day-to-day basis.

People Unlimited is partnering with a variety of organisations in 2010 to promote volunteering opportunities within the sector to help you gain more experience.

A stepping stone into the sector...

You might be reading this and thinking, what’s the connection? What has this all got to do with me finding work? Well, most of the successful candidates that gain employment in the third sector have some kind of volunteering experience, from working with the elderly to helping young people in schools learn to read. People Unlimited and Beatbullying have joined forces to offer a very special opportunity to any candidate looking for employment in the third sector. We know that employers will always favour those with good skills and experience. If you have little in the way of volunteering experience, your chances of finding employment in the sector are greatly reduced.

Together People Unlimited and Beatbullying are offering you the opportunity to train as a Senior CyberMentor in their award-winning CyberMentor project. Help young people across the UK who are being bullied online and join an army of other CyberMentors who carry out this very flexible and pioneering volunteering opportunity totally online from the comfort of your own pc, gaining the skills and experience that employers look for and increasing your chances of gaining employment in the sector.

CyberMentors are trained in London and other parts of England and then volunteer just 2 hours of their time each week online through their website.

If you are aged between 20 - 25 years old, think of this opportunity as a stepping stone into the sector and increase your chances of gaining employment through volunteering with one of the UK’s most highly respected and award winning children’s charities, Beatbullying.

To become a CyberMentor, email digitalvolunteering@beatbullying.org.
