People working in a number of charity jobs have been promoting Deaf Awareness Week - June 28th until July 4th - to businesses in their area.
The Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) believes that organisations could make their services more attractive to people with hearing difficulties by becoming deaf aware.
Chief executive of RNID Jackie Ballard said employing a few changes could encourage return custom by enrolling staff in suitable training courses.
"[Providing] fully operational induction loops and remov[ing] unnecessary barriers," are ways in which communication with people who are deaf or hard of hearing can be improved, she continued.
Ms Ballard's comments come in response to a survey, conducted by the RNID, which found 71 per cent of those asked would be encouraged to use a certain business if staff were deaf aware.
Meanwhile, the RNID has urged Fifa to help football fans watching World Cup matches in a loud environment - such as when surrounded by vuvuzelas - protect their hearing by providing ear plugs for those who want them.
