SmartGrid to boost green energy job opportunities in Liverpool?

The installation of SmartGrid technology in Liverpool could boost the opportunities for green energy jobs.

Lorraine Rogers, chief executive of the Mersey Partnership (TMP), said a trial of ScottishPower's scheme will be a "catalyst" for new jobs.

She added: "Going forward our role will be to facilitate opportunities for the private sector and to maximise related job creation and investment."

Work on the project is due to begin this summer and could create roles in IT, technology, communications as well as construction and maintenance.

The meter-based installation will reach approximately 1,200 homes in south Liverpool as well as schools and businesses in the area.

What's more, if the SmartGrid is successful in the north-west, it could be rolled out in other areas of the UK, ScottishPower has confirmed.

Jobseekers looking for employment in Dumfries & Galloway however, might be interested to hear a new windfarm is to be constructed at Ewe Hill.
