Those working in charity jobs might share the opinion of one expert who said the default retirement age proposed by the government should be "phased out".
Michelle Mitchell, Age UK charity director, said many workers' plans for later life could be "disrupted" if such measures are introduced.
She added: "Allowing employers to force people to retire not only leads to wasting older workers' skills and expertise, but also undermines the government's attempts to extend working lives."
Lots of people work past the current specified ages because they want to or need to continue earning - a timetable as to when a default age would come into force could clear up confusion and allow those affected to make arrangements for their future, Ms Mitchell concluded.
Research from Aviva has found that even though life expectancy is increasing, just over half (52 per cent) of those asked thought people should work longer as a result.
