Recycling ''vital for environmental careers''-Environmental Careers News
29 Oct 2009
One expert may find favour with those keen on environmental careers, after she suggested there should be greater resources directed towards improving recycling practices.
Jenny Bates, London campaigner for Friends of the Earth, outlined the reasons why current landfill waste policies must be changed.
She said: "We should be reusing and recycling as much as possible."
Regarding the capital's strategy on such matters, Ms Bates added: "The mayor must now focus on improving London's recycling rate to cut waste, slash carbon emissions and create new jobs."
People could help tackle climate change by committing themselves to such measures, she hinted.
The comments come after a study by the London Assembly Environment Committee revealed that the city's waste could generate electricity for two million properties.
Additionally, it showed that 22 million tonnes of waste are produced by Londoners every year - enough to fill Canary Wharf to the brim every eight days.
