Prepare for stings and upset stomachs at festivals, say those in charity jobs-Charity job News
29 Jun 2010
A professional working in a charity job has issued advice that might help those planning a trip to a music festival this summer.
Joe Mulligan, head of first aid education at the British Red Cross, said stings, sprains and upset stomachs from undercooked food are the most common ailments which attendees can prepare for.
"Prevention is better than cure, so take some basic provisions such as high-factor sun block [and] insect repellent," he added.
Heatstroke and heat exhaustion are two different illnesses which are common at outdoor events and revellers using "non-prescription medicine and drugs" are most at risk, Mr Mulligan explained.
It could be said that swotting up on some basic remedies could help prevent a trip to the hospital tent - sliding a credit card over an embedded sting to remove it is one tip the expert claims could prevent poison being released into the body.
Research from the Post Office recently revealed that people are likely to take hair straighteners or a laptop to open air events this summer.
