People Unlimited creates charity trustee roles

Staff from a financial services provider will boost their skills by taking up trustee roles within a number of charities.

Recruitment specialist People Unlimited has set up a new project where senior managers at Legal & General can use their existing experience to benefit a not-for-profit organisation.

Graham Precey, head of CSR at Legal & General, said: "We have broken away from the traditional non executive development route for managers in the FTSE 350 and created a scheme that benefits individuals, the sector and society as a whole."

Volunteers will be excused from their usual duties to provide support, guidance and expertise to a charity by attending board and sub-committee meetings and making decisions about how resources are spent.

Do-it.org advises that taking on such a role can be a challenge as well as being rewarding and "extremely interesting".

The Legal & General scheme is expected to continue for some time with mutual benefit for individuals and charitable groups, added David Lale, chairman of People Unlimited.
