Pay rise discussions for BBC media jobs-Media jobs News
14 Jun 2010
Media jobs at the BBC are the subject of new discussions with senior management, which has offered people in these positions a pay rise.
According to BECTU, which submitted a joint pay claim with Unite and the National Union of Journalists in February of this year, the BBC has responded with a flat rate hike of £475 per year for those who earn less than an annual £37,726.
However, professionals taking home more than that amount would see their salary frozen.
The BBC's offer is equivalent to a 1.2 per cent increase for employees at the upper limit.
But the joint unions said although they were not opposed to a longer-term pay deal, they wanted to secure better returns for all salary bands.
In addition, the proposed cap for the flat rate is too low, said BECTU, which currently has over 26,500 members.
"Many ... would be disenfranchised if this salary cap was to be applied," it remarked.
