Green jobs in the north-east of England may get a boost from a new zero-emission mobility scheme agreed by Nissan and One North East. The car manufacturer and the regional development agency have outlined plans to roll out electric vehicles as well as the infrastructure to support them in the area.Plans include the provision of more than 600 charging points for electric vehicles by the beginning of 2011, as well as the supply of Nissan Leaf electric vehicles to the region by the same year. The agreement was signed on the shop floor of the Nissan factory in Sunderland and the two groups home it will establish the north-east as the UK's main base for ultra-low carbon transport development."We look forward to stimulating and shaping this emerging industry which will create new jobs for our region and help reduce CO2 emissions," said Margaret Fay, chairwoman of One North East. The Nissan Leaf was unveiled in August and the automaker noted that the zero-emission vehicle which is powered by lithium-ion batteries could satisfy the driving needs of 70 per cent of the world's auto consumers.People Unlimited are specialists in recruitment for Green Energy Jobs
