New plans to help green jobs get off the ground

New government plans announced this week could help green jobs get off the ground.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change's Connect and Manage plans will help clear the way for renewable energy projects to connect to the grid, providing a welcome boost for environmental jobs.

The plans, announced by energy and climate change minister David Kidney, are set to help the country meet its 2020 targets for renewable energy by allowing wind farms and other sources of green energy to connect to the grid.

Mr Kidney identified that lack of access to the electricity grid had been one of the major sticking points in utilising renewable energy.

"The new rules will help these projects get hooked up to the grid as soon as they are ready – helping in the shift to low carbon, secure energy supplies," he said.

Earlier in the week the government announced that seven million British homes would be transformed by eco upgrades by 2020.
