Work on a new development in Cheddar has begun, which could create more housing jobs in the area.

First Step Homes is working with a member of the Guinness Partnership to construct a total of 67 affordable properties on Helliers Lane.

The Homes and Communities Agency has invested approximately £2.5 million in the project, which will see one and two-bedroom flats and two to four-bedroom houses made available.

Duncan Harvey, Sedgemoor affordable housing development manager, said: "We should recognise the contribution it makes to the wider physical regeneration of Cheddar and the timely boost to the local economy during this testing time."

What's more, the dwellings are expected to be 25 per cent more efficient than their traditionally-built counterparts and have achieved Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Meanwhile, housing options in Middlesborough could also be improved thanks to the redevelopment of unused land - it will be transformed into residential, business and leisure facilities thanks to a multi-million pound investment.
