More green jobs now to ''prevent electricity shortages in the future''-Green energy jobs News
26 Apr 2010
Some 100,000 environmental jobs could be created if one expert's advice to build more wind farms is taken on board.
Tony Blakely, founder and group executive chairman of Ultra Green, said Britain could be heading towards blackouts similar to those experienced in the 70s because electricity plants are closing across the country.
"By 2013, ten per cent of our power stations will be gone. Many more will be decommissioned. By 2015, 25 per cent of our output will be gone," he added.
Mr Blakely claimed that bureaucracy is to blame and opposition from local councils is preventing necessary steps towards using waste to produce power.
He concluded that support from the government to produce these employment opportunities is needed before the industry can flourish.
However, a study from Ernst & Young showed that despite financial constraints after the recession, the UK is an attractive location to those looking to invest in renewable projects.
