Media jobs see digital economy bill rushed through parliament-Media jobs News
09 Apr 2010
People looking for media jobs may want to read up on various aspects of the digital economy bill, which was "rushed" through parliament last night (April 8th).
According to the Guardian, the future legislation received a third reading and is now set to achieve royal assent, meaning it will become law.
The bill is a joint one between the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It addresses four key areas, including the problem of online infringement of copyright, the provision of engaging public service content, the creation of a digital communications infrastructure and the improvement of technological security and safety.
However, the lack of time provided to further debate various clauses of the bill prior to the general election has led to certain elements being "torpedoed", the newspaper said.
"The most incendiary part of the bill - clause 18 - which handed the High Court powers to grant injunctions forcing [internet service providers] to block access to online sites, was withdrawn," it added.
