Media jobs ''focus on social networking''-Media jobs News
03 Mar 2010
Social networking is the big focus for people employed in media jobs - especially those in marketing - according to an industry expert.
Speaking after last week's Technology for Marketing & Advertising (TFM&A) 2010 event in London, Darren Dutton, business director at marketing news and networking website Marketing.co.uk, said while it was not yet mainstream, marketing through social networking would be increasingly common over the next year.
"It's changed over the past 12 months to 24 months. There're a lot of people at this event talking about social media," he said.
Mr Dutton continued by offering his opinion on the future of marketing within social networking, suggesting much smaller networks are likely to appear that will allow for a more targeted approach to reaching desired audiences.
The TFM&A event featured keynote speeches from industry experts, including representatives from Google, YouTube and Facebook.
A new blog has been set up by the Internet Advertising Bureau's social media council SMC to help media professionals to maximise their social networking potential and can be found at www.iabuksocial.co.uk.
