A key growth area for those in media and arts jobs social networking has been backed to become a vital marketing tool this year.
At a recent conference in Earls Court entitled Technology for Marketing and Advertising one expert said he felt the use of social networking was becoming widespread.
Kevin Dendy, commercial director at the Direct Marketing Association, said: "[T]hey are definitely becoming mainstream. You'll come across social media campaigns all the time. The Direct Marketing Association itself is fully embroiled in getting involved in social media and digital."
In addition, he suggested the best results would always come from multiple methods of communication, rather than concentration on any single medium.
The two-day event was aimed at professionals from the direct marketing, digital marketing, advertising, brand management and publishing fields.
Research published last week by software solutions company Unica indicated more than half of all businesses surveyed had already embraced social media as a part of their marketing activities.
