Mayor announces new arts job for Veronica Wadley-Arts jobs News 11 Jun 2010

Victoria Wadley will take up a new arts job when she starts work as the London chair at Arts Council England.

Mayor Boris Johnson said: "She will bring energy, drive and ambition to this vital sector that does so much for our quality of life in London and the capital's reputation around the world."

Investment from the government and hard work from communities and organisations will help Ms Wadley support the endeavours of those working in the industry, she said.

Ms Wadley has previously worked in a number of journalistic roles in Britain. She has edited the London Evening Standard and has also been employed by Vogue, the Daily Mail, Sunday Mail titles and the Telegraph.

Dame Liz Forgan, chair of the Arts Council England, remarked that the new recruit's skills will be put to good use in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

Earlier this month the Arts Council announced details of the 2010 team of staff working within the enterprise and how they will cope with budget cuts and challenges in the current economic climate.
