Those seeking media jobs can stick out from the crowd by boosting the amount of relevant experience they can put on their CV, an expert has said.
Carl Gilleard, chief executive of the Association of Graduate Recruiters, mentioned the importance of such work stints to anyone looking to become a journalist.
He stated: "If you can't point to anything that you have written
then people might question whether you are really committed to that kind of career."
Mr Gilleard went on to explain: "Those are the kind of things that make you stand out."
Following the comments, budding journalists might want to ensure their portfolio of cuttings has the wow-factor, especially considering the competitiveness of the current graduate jobs market.
According to a recent report by Lancaster University commissioned by the British Chamber of Commerce graduate recruitment schemes raise £5.30 for every £1 invested in those who have recently left higher education.
