Green jobs available in energy generation

People searching for green jobs may be interested in details of opportunities in offshore energy generation, after new funding was earmarked by the government in this area.

Currently, applications for offshore wind farms are often opposed by the aviation industry, on the basis that such turbines can interfere with radars and have an impact on air traffic controllers.

Speaking at the British Wind Energy Association conference, energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband announced £5.15 million of research into preventing this kind of disruption to aviation authorities.

He said the investment "could resolve wind impacts on radar".

Meanwhile, Rob Hastings, director of marine estate at the Crown Estate, pledged that his organisation will be "actively supporting this new industry", adding: "Offshore wind energy generation is starting to mature."

Elsewhere, the Committee on Climate Change recently projected that the UK's rate of emissions will have dropped by two per cent for the year 2008.
