Follow-up email advice for freelancers in media jobs-Media jobs News
13 May 2010
Journalists or other freelancers in media jobs could take a number of measures to ensure the tone of a follow-up email is pitched at the right level.
Dave Clarke, communications strategist at Churnless, wrote a piece for Web Worker Daily in which he outlined the subtleties of writing a second email to a client.
He said that although follow-up messages can be irritating in nature, it is important to "embrace a tone that gives context and character".
In this way, Mr Clarke explained that using a relaxed tone can be an effective approach.
"When you call out exactly what it is you're doing and add a little good-natured self-deprecation, people appreciate the forthright approach," he said.
The expert also claimed it is important to have a good understanding of a client's personality before engaging with them for a second time.
Responding promptly to any messages from a customer may be essential for contractors who are keen to show their professionalism.
