People in charity careers could see an influx of male employees as one organisation reported a rise in applications from men for voluntary positions.
More than 80 per cent of all people helping veterinary association PDSA work in its shops - a role which is seen to be dominated by women, said head of volunteering, Janet Compton.
But, PDSA added, over 1,200 men still assist in the stores and they make up 25 per cent of the total workforce in all sectors combined.
Ms Compton attributed the increased numbers of applications from men to improvements in training and a focus on jobs they specifically might enjoy.
Giving up some spare time to support a charity could also boost a candidate's CV which is a valuable asset in today's job market, she added.
Funded by public donations, PDSA provides free care to thousands of animals each year and dedicated hospitals have been set up for strays and people who have not been able to afford veterinary bills for their pet.
