Environmental jobs news: Turbines near industry can be very efficient-Green energy jobs News
09 Mar 2010
Locating windfarms near industry - a process likely to create environmental jobs in the process - provides numerous benefits.
This is according to Dale Vince, founder and managing director of Ecotricity, an independent power supplier and builder of eight per cent of England's turbines.
He said the Merchant Wind Power idea started about a decade ago when the company located wind turbines near a Sainsbury's site. Later, other chains such as Ford, B&Q and Michelin have followed suit.
This scheme is advantageous for various organisations because the energy generated can be used by the nearby company for operations, while excess is fed back into the grid.
"Modern windmill designs are extremely efficient around 90 per cent efficient - and getting the most from them depends on careful planning and the wind potential at each location, whether that's a brownfield or greenfield site," Mr Vince added.
Increased green jobs are likely to be made available as more turbines are constructed, so those interested in this area of the industry may want to keep looking.
