Workers in care jobs are receiving good training when it comes to dealing with dementia patients, but more needs to be done, according to one expert.Penny Hibberd, director of the Dementia Service Development Centre South East, said a lack of understanding of the condition was a problem. She said: "Regarding training specifically in dementia care, I think it is improving but there is a lot more to do - especially for those that aren't registered professionals, for example the care [workers]."Ms Hibberd was speaking after the launch of a new government awareness scheme, fronted by care services minister Phil Hope. The Living Well campaign involves sufferers of the disease educating the public about the condition and the role they can play to help people live well with dementia.Department of Health figures suggest that one in three people would find it difficult to spend much time with a sufferer and 53 per cent indicated they do not know enough about the condition to help someone who is affected.People Unlimited are specialists in recruitment for Health Careers
