Those with care jobs may soon come across new guidance, which aims to make "a real difference" to neonatal treatment.

Published by the Department of Health (DoH), the Toolkit promises to provide practical advice on how to improve issues - such as ensuring the right staff are on hand at births.

The manual has been developed with specialist NHS staff and experts from baby charity Bliss to help improve neonatal services and make it more family-centred.

Health minister Ann Keen has been asked to oversee and implement the project.

She noted welcoming a new child into the family should be a happy moment, but it can be very distressing if the baby is sick - which is why the DoH has produced the guidance.

"I've seen the excellent care the NHS provides for small and premature babies - and the doctors and nurses working in neonatal care should be proud that more babies than ever before are surviving," she stated.

Meanwhile, people with care jobs might be pleased to hear that the majority of UK doctors have recently rated the quality of care as continually improving.
