People with dementia deserve better treatment, according to an expert whose comments may find agreement with those looking for care jobs.The remarks follow the release of a report by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics, which outlined ways in which people with dementia could be given more respect.It called for a greater understanding of such conditions and recommended a good standard of assessment after patients experience symptoms, plus a fairer allocation of health and social resourcesAndrew Scheuber, spokesperson for the Alzheimer's Research Trust, welcomed the report and agreed that dementia has been given a "Cinderella status" because it has received less attention than conditions such as cancer.He went on to say that research into conditions like Alzheimer's could be given greater priority, adding: "There is still a stigma attached to dementia."A lot of what the government is doing through its National Dementia Strategy is focussed only on the later stages."Recently, a study by the Alzheimer's Research Trust found that 700,000 people in the UK have dementia, at a cost to the UK economy of £17 billion a year.
