Care and charity jobs may welcome new volunteering strategy-Care recruitment News
14 Dec 2009
People in charity or care jobs may soon welcome a newly-launched volunteering strategy outlined today (December 14th) by the government.
Replacing the Opportunities for Volunteering scheme, the Health and Social Care Volunteering Fund is aimed at strengthening and widening the scope of investment in such roles within the health and social care system.
Grants, which will be awarded for projects such as support for vulnerable adults and help for those living with HIV, will be managed centrally.
Speaking on behalf of the Department of Health (DoH), care services minister Phil Hope said areas such as young people's wellbeing, smoking and obesity will also be targeted.
Any organisation in the third sector can apply for funding.
"Volunteers do an amazing job and are vital to the lifeblood of the NHS and social care services," Mr Hope remarked. "This new funding system
will make our money work harder by opening up funding opportunities."
Other news from the DoH this week included an update on developments in the area of kidney care.
It said good progress has been made since the introduction of the National Service Framework five years ago.
