Campaign for tap water

Health jobs this new year could include encouraging those around you to drink more tap water.

The Consumer Council for Water is campaigning to ensure the public are drinking enough fluids throughout the day, arguing that tap water is the healthiest - and cheapest - choice.

Dame Yve Buckland said increasing one's intake of liquid is one of the easiest healthy choices one can make for one's body.

"Just a two per cent loss of water from your body can result in a ten per cent drop in physical and mental performance, so it is important to make sure that we stay well hydrated at all times," she added.

The council has released some tips to help increase water intake.

They include taking water with you each day while out and about, keeping a bottle handy at work, sipping some with every meal, asking for tap water while out at restaurants and eating plenty of fruit and vegetables.
