Technophiles working in arts jobs and other media-related areas could be set to conduct most of their business on mobile devices within a few years, if predictions are correct.
Last week, Google vice-president of global ad operations John Herlihy suggested smartphones could replace the desktop computer as the basis of electronic communication.
Leigh Geary, webmaster of CoolSmartPhone.com, notes many more people are buying netbooks and smaller handheld devices in a move away from traditional laptops.
He said: "People snapping up those increasingly popular netbooks just want to surf the web, get their email and use web-based apps - your smartphone can do this now, plus it'll make calls too."
Despite this, Consumer Focus released a report this week highlighting research suggesting one in three UK households are still without internet access a total of around 12 million homes.
For employees in the arts and media sectors, using such technology can become second nature and new technologies typically play an important role in the industry.
