£1.2m invested in training for art and media jobs

People looking to kick start their career in arts and media careers might be pleased to hear that £1.2 million has been invested in training opportunities in the sector.

Skillset's TV Freelance Fund (TVFF) has announced plans to spend the cash in a number of areas including management, leadership, craft, technical and multiplatform endeavours.

Peter Dale, TV Skills council chair and founder of Rare Day, said: "The aim of these funding programmes is to ensure we continue to entertain, innovate and educate at the highest standards well into the future."

The TVFF is made up of contributions from a number of broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4 and Five as well as the Indie Training Fund.

Skillset claims the cash injection will help boost the abilities of those trying to break into the industry during a difficult economic time where opportunities are scarce and job losses are rife.

Earlier this year, the organisation announced it would also support those looking for a way into the fashion and textiles industry as well as its existing footprint covering TV, film, animation, publishing and a number of other creative roles.
