Challenge
v powered by Vinspired, the national charity promoting volunteering amongst 16-24 year olds, approached Charity People to handle the response for the recruitment of 112 people. Consisting of ten Regional Managers and 102 School Advisers, all on one year fixed-term contracts delivering vschools, part of the Youth Community Action Programme.
Swiftness was crucial as the recruitment advertising had already gone to press when we were appointed by v. Therefore, implementation planning had to take place quickly, coinciding with receiving the first wave of applications.
Solution
We created a dedicated team of consultants, with a dedicated phone number and email address for handling the applications. This involved:
- Screening applications against agreed criteria
- Answering enquiries
- Telephone interviewing those screened successfully
- Panel interviews across the country alongside v team members
- Criminal Record Bureau checking
- Salary negotiations and verbal job offers
- Collating references from successful candidates
- Helping to co-ordinate induction
One issue that occurred was a relatively low response to the first round of advertising. Our consultants provided advice on where to place the second round of advertising and also worked with v to employ a number of digital methods, including email and social media, to reach additional candidates.
This resulted in a second wave of response handling for v which we managed as part of our service.
Communication is also a fundamental element of our offering, so we regularly reported on the status of the programme, presenting at weekly stakeholder meetings and also to the v20 youth advisory board.
Result
Charity People provided v with a comprehensive response handling service that successfully managed the recruitment of over one hundred key employees across the UK.
Our response handling service saved v a substantial amount of time, filtering out hundreds of unsuitable applications and responding to numerous enquiries. This allowed v to concentrate solely on interviewing the most relevant candidates and enabled them to focus on the key functions of their organisation.
