Case Study » Recruitment Solutions for the Royal College of Surgeons of England
Challenge
The Royal College of Surgeons of
England, is committed to enabling surgeons to achieve and maintain the highest
standards of surgical practice and patient care. When recruiting employees, the
College often requires candidates that are educated to degree level, ideally with
a background in a professional membership body, as well as the skills to perform
the specific role. This can make it difficult to find the right candidates, not
only with the relevant skills and experience but who are also a right fit personality-wise.
Solution
Charity People has been recruiting for value-led organisations since 1990. There
are a number of elements to our service that differentiate us from our competitors.
The first key element is to get an in-depth understanding our clients’ needs
and motivations, and the kind of person they are looking for. We look to answer
a number of important questions including:
Understanding the underlying purpose of the client organisation:
- What does the organisation (and specific departments) do?
- What does the organisation (and specific departments) want to achieve?
- Why do they do it?
- How do they do it?
- How is organisation (and specific departments) structured?
- What is the organisational culture?
Understanding the person specification for the role:
- What does the role entail?
- How does the role fit into the department and wider organisation?
- What are the skills and experience required to do the role?
- What are the key attributes required to do the role?
- What personality types would best fit the role and the organisation?
- Any other factors to take into consideration? E.g. job share, working from home,
etc.
By spending time with the Royal College of Surgeons, we gained a thorough insight
into their organisation and the specific vacancies, enabling us to create detailed
person specifications which we can use for screening purposes.
We then apply the specification criteria whilst doing a search of our database of
over 30,000 active jobseekers. We also use a number of additional methods to source
candidates including online advertising and social media. Those that pass the initial
screening will be vetted further using face-to-face interviews and, in some case,
via assessment tests.
Communication is also a fundamental part of our offering, we regular report on progress,
queries we receive and feedback from candidates. This can be useful to the client
for future recruitment drives and in some cases for amending the person specification.
This way we can effectively match high-calibre candidates that fit the role and
the organisation.
