My failure story - Nikki
"Everything happens for a reason". As part of Pizza for Losers, Nikki relates how listening to some well-timed advice can make all the difference.
In 2015 I was a newly graduated university student; in my eyes the world really was my oyster. However, I found out quite quickly that getting a job was not going to be that easy. I spent months applying for roles, sometimes getting to interview stage but most of the time I found myself on the back end of rejection emails.
In the mix of my hundreds of applications, I managed to secure an interview for a PhD at Liverpool John Moores University. Fast forward four years and after much stress, a lot of tears and more grey hairs than I care to count, I finally handed in my thesis last month (Hurrah!).
Whilst completing my PhD, I started working part-time with Charity People. I am now working here full-time among a team who inspire me every day. I get to work with some truly amazing fundraisers who are committed and passionate about their charities cause and go above and beyond to improve people's lives. Had I really succeeded at anything else I would not be in the role I belong and love today. My dad always says that 'everything happens for a reason'.
